So a few years ago while I was working in the city, a work mate was putting up some funny drawings on the notice board in our write-up room.  This is the room where we would all hang out while finishing paperwork and generally cleaning up between cases.  This picture is funny because it is true 🤣 but sadly reflects the community's demand for service in many metropolitan areas.

Went for a walk for the first time in a while.  Just hit a regional park in my area.  Grabbed my camera, not expecting to find much.  It was mid-day, overcast, wet mushy snow, etc...  So I knew I'd be looking for the small details.  When I came around a corner, I found this nice little piece of grass that had fallen into the packed snow of the trail.  :)

Back in 2014, Lake Superior froze over, allowing access to the Apostle Island Ice Caves.  It only happens once or twice a decade so, somewhat spur of the moment, we cut our Winter Adventure short and drove down the north shore and up the south shore of Superior.  It's about a half mile walk out on the ice to get to the caves which were wonderful.  Natural ice pillars 50 feet tall, waterfalls frozen for months as they cascade down to the lake, caves with icicles dangling down, and hoar frost coating everything.

One particularly fun little cave also had a couple little chambers you could crawl around in.  The entrance was up 4-5 feet off the ice and was a narrow opening to get into.  But once in there, there was some really need erosion patterns and fun mosses growing on the rocks.  This image shows light coming in from the opening of the cave, through the first chamber and into a second.  It shone as a spotlight on the purple and green mosses that were growing there.  Fun stuff!

Now this picture might not seem particularly interesting to anyone but it is to me for a particular reason. This was taken on top of a tower that is set on an island right off the coast of Kamakura, a historical city in Japan, South of Tokyo. If I ever won the lottery and had (not literally) all the money in the world and could buy or build a house wherever I wanted to in the world, then this view would show you where it would be. Somewhere in that area is where I'd immediately put it or buy it. I love Kamakura and the area around Shichirigahama (which is the beach there). It's one of my favorite places in this world.

Croc.jpg

Not far from where we live there is a statue of the largest crocodile ever killed (8.5 m long) back in the days when hunting crocs was still a thing (back in the 50's or 60's I think).  This statue is a representation of how big the croc was based on the dimensions taken at the time.  Croc numbers diminished quite a bit over the years they were hunted, however now since crocs have been protected for many years their numbers are increasing, and so are their sizes.  I've heard reports from quite a few sober people about evidence of one (or more) crocodiles in our region that are approaching the 10 m size.  Certainly there are many that exceed the length of the average fishing boat (about 5 m).  I look forward to seeing some evidence of it in the future (hopefully a photo from a safe distance).

I'm sorry, what? :o

I've seen a 4m croc and heaps of smaller ones.  It is not normal for crocs to be found wandering the streets, though it has happened https://www.tropicnow.com.au/2017/january/1/croc-wanders-down-street-and-sunbakes-in-backyard.html  There's quite a few 5m crocs about, though I haven't seen those ones.  As you can imagine there are a great deal of stories about how big a certain croc was that was seen or otherwise bumped into.  Most of these stories must be seen for what they are.....expansions on the truth for the most part.  I know of three people who've seen evidence of the monster to rival Krys (the statue).

I grabbed another motocycle...can't count how many I have now tucked in places.

This one though has a drop through exhaust without a baffle. She reaches 110 decibels! :D   No excuse for people not to move out the way nowdays.

Two weeks ago I was in Belgium. There, in the city of Liège, lies the so-called "Montagne de Beuren" (Mountain of Beuren; Beuren Mountain). A staircase consisting of 374 steps with houses adjacent to it. The stairs are named after Vincent de Beuren. In the 15th century, the Duke of Burgundy tried to conquer the region in which Liège is located and besieged the city. The legend says that 600 men, including their leader Vincent de Beuren, tried to kill the Duke of Burgundy during the neight to free their city. Their plan failed, however, and all of them were killed. Liège fell to the Burgunds who threw hundreds of people tied together in the Meuse River that flows through the city. Afterwards, they set the city ablaze after which it burned seven weeks. To which extend this story is true is a matter of debate. I'm not sure how likely it is that a 15th century city would burn seven weeks. And also the number of 600 men is being contested by historians.

Nevertheless, the stairs exist and remind people of its alleged history (fun fact: They don't really since there is no badge or something along those lines whatsoever that explains the "history" behind these stairs. The information above are all from the internet which I read when I was there for more information and now read up again to provide you with some entertainment value). Aaaaanyway.. I walked those 374 steps up and was beat. In the meantime, a maybe 16 year old boy was constantly jogging the steps up and down as part of his training. Miss me with that idea.

Little insect that has taken a grand total of 126 Pictures with failed camera focus until i got this >.<

The only thing more impressive about this is that this little fellow stayed in place for like 10 minutes while 3 people are taking dozens of pictures of it.

Here's a simple photo of a lily from my Grandmother's garden.  I've captured a lot of photos from this particular garden of hers over the years.  She took so much pride in the care and detail she put into her gardens I was always in awe as they grew.  Sadly, my Grandmother passed away last month after a battle with ALS.  I'm so happy we got time with her in the weeks leading to her passing where I was able to take this and other photos from her gardens.  Not only do I have these photos and the many memories, I also have a row of hostas that came from her hosta garden.  She was so happy to be able to share them with my wife and I.  (hostas get too big and need to be split up as they grow)

Here's a little more of a cheery photo.  The Little Lurker has a couple of these bins of little plastic bears.  They're a great learning tool that evolves from fine motor control development (picking up, transferring from one container to another, etc....), to color recognition, to counting.  During one of our play sessions she wandered off and left me to play with the bears.  I made a picture.  :)   (yes, I followed ROY G BIV in my arrangement of colors because I'm a nerd like that)
