The Journey of the Ant
I was struck by how alone he was. This was taken in the fall on a wooden bridge passing over a small creek on my work campus (I can post a picture of the building proper soon). The snow had yet to come but it had just turned down to the 40s, so I was huddled in my hoodie trying to catch a few rays of sun when I noticed this little bugger was the only thing still out and moving in the cold. I noticed he seemed to be following a path where things were a bit rougher - notice the worn-away paint in the top third as opposed to the still smoother, painted wood below it. I'm assuming there was more surface area for him to catch pheromones or be familiar as opposed to the flatter and probably more confusing place to travel just lower.
In any case, when I took my camera phone out to snap a picture, he obliged and allowed me to take a few as he stood still before continuing on his course shortly after. This one is my favorite - from another perspective, it could almost be an ant scaling the white cliffs, or perhaps trekking through a desert to find his way home. As it is now, all he became was a partner for me to practice my shooting on. I very much felt like a kindred spirit with him.
And then he was eaten by a spider. I went back inside.

During this year's winter adventure, my buddy and I made our way to Eagle Mountain, the highest point in Minnesota. I think I posted an image from Eagle Mountain somewhere around here but I can't seem to find it now...
The hike in to Eagle Mountain is a nice 3.5ish mile jaunt through beautiful forest (Superior National Forest to be specific) and along inland lakes. It's mostly flat for the first 3 miles then ramps up aggressively to the summit near the end. We had caught the trail a few days after a heavy snowfall which made the hike even more beautiful. While walking into a particularly dense section of forest, I snapped this photo of my buddy (with my phone). Upon landing in Google Photos, I get a notification for a new "stylized" photo. Most of the time, these are crap because "the machine" doesn't know my vision for what I wanted out of the image. In this case, however, it turned out quite nice. Reminds me of a photo from an outdoor sporting goods store.
Fun fact, from the high point of Minnesota, Eagle Mountain, you can see the low point of Minnesota (Lake Superior).

I took that Picture when i was strolling through the city one evening.
That church is called "Berner Münster" or bernese minster. Because it is made out of Sandstone, which is weak against sour rain, you rarely see it without Scaffolding.
It is the most noticeable feature of the capital and looks great on the Skyline. ^.^
This is a photo from the top of Lookout Mountain in Tennessee.
While on my vacation of randomness I saw a sign for Lookout Mountain. I decided to head there since as a child I went rather regularly with my family. It was a lot of fun and extremely nostalgic. This would be my first stop after spending some time with family (and collecting the venison from them which is what I would eat during the next 4 days).
There is actually quite a few pictures of me riding these very cannons when I was a kid, it was like a tradition that every time I would go I would hop on the cannons and someone would take a picture of me.

*tinfoil hat* I will pull this madness back on tracks. This photo is a picture of one of the many walks me and Mrs. had in Toronto. This is St. James Park. There is lots a nice flowers and fountains and a historical plaque but I will not break the rules.

This was a little shop in Toronto's distillery historic district. I think the Distillery historic district was one of my favourite places on our trip. (I wonder why 
) Thought it was interesting seeing all the different kinds of beer bottles hanging up on the ceiling throw out the shop.

I'm a bit overdue and didn't search too hard to find something truly epic. Instead you get a nice silhouette of my buddy taking a shot of peppermint schnapps at sunset, after a couple mile hike to a nice overlook on the Superior Hiking trail. As a part of our annual winter adventure, we've gotten in the habit of bringing a small flask to share some schnapps at our destination. One of these years we're going to bring a bigger flask... 4 oz just isn't enough for two of us.
This is super cool so I'm going to share some photos from a New Zealand trip that I took on winter break. I actually signed up for PnW in NZ, so that's a fun coinkydink. These are all my photos and I'm proud of them because I think they look really nice. This is working backwards through the trip :v
This is from Hobbiton (a.k.a the Shire). It's near Auckland, and really the only manmade thing of note on the North Island. The North Island also has some really cool volcanos, but my trip wasn't long enough to visit those.
Actually, I lied. I did get to visit a geothermal hot spring, which was really cool. Rotorua (this place) is formed on top of a place with a lot of geothermal activity, so these pools are heated and often boiling. They are colored by various minerals and all that mix with the water.
These were the waterfalls coming back from Milford Sound, a natural sound. It's basically always raining at Milford Sound, so these are semi-permanent, but these only appear when it's raining.
Here are some photos of the Sound itself. New Zealand really makes you feel like an ant.
