Paradox Games

Big fan of Paradox. Played both HoI2 and HoI3, and a game they published that was devekloped by Black Sea Studios called Knights of Honor.

For people who have played a lot of EU4, which DLCs should I get? I'm nearing the end of my CK2 play through (it's 1300 in game -- started at the 769 start) and am about to convert it to EU4.

manga mundi?
The best EU3 mod. Long story, but it was supposed to be a standalone EU game in itself. But it died dramatically. Then people made a lot of other mods for it.

It makes the game way more realistic and adds more interesting ways to play but a lot of people hate it because they can no longer just conquer everything without their empire collapsing on itself.

sounds neat. i assume you have to deal with penalties and stuff for the differences in culture/logistics/rebellions and stuff?

Mods are the best part of almost any game i've played. Add so many more playable hours.

Yup different cultures. A lot of things about trade fixed and upgraded. Reputation is a lot more important and harder to game. Bad stuff happens if you have low stability. Getting cores became really hard if you weren't a cultural/religious fit.

Attrition was really important and provinces were much harder to conquer. Small things like the game penalizing you if you had a huge standing army or unrealistic cavalry focus. Navies were a cultural thing - very significant game decision if you wanted to build a powerful navy.

Magna Mundi was very event based. So if you were playing in the Mediterranean, you had to deal with Barbary pirates. In the Hanseatic league, you had the politics. European nations had the spice route path and all that.

Little details like that event tid bit are always awesome to see. Gives a unique experience aside from shallow geographical differences that you get to experience. Always appreciated those kinds of things

I ended up getting Art of War/Common Sense/El Dorado/Wealth of Nations after reading some recommendations on the EU4 subreddit. Will report back with an AAR that wraps up my CK2 campaign before starting my EU4 game (I will learn as I go).

I got Hearts of Iron 4 and it's dope. Best of luck with Eu4, I stopped playing it recently primarily because I didn't like the changes specifically Common Sense added. The fort system is interesting, but the AI ignores it which makes building forts pointless. They made changes to the AI too that I didn't enjoy much such as long standing alliances suddenly breaking because they suddenly want all your land, Ottomans allying Bohemia or Austria and killing everyone. This was around March so I don't know what has changed since.

Lol I never really went for the whole paint the map my color way of playing. My goal is essentially to form a decent sized kingdom by the end of the game and convert to EUIV with a believable situation on the map. I've had trouble with that as of late though.

Yeah, painting the map isn't that fun tbh. The first part of this play through I set up separate kingdoms. My plan was to conquer India and go from there in EU4, unfortunately my vassals started taking over the Arabian Peninsula/Afria/Iran etc

Definitely CK2, i love the dynasty system just like with Rome. EU4 for its colonialist functions and victoria 1 and 2 for her industrialist functions,,

I never had symphaty for Hearts of Iron though..
