Personal benefit: I have tickets for 12/18 at 00:01 (one minute into the release day). 

That's 17th of December at 02:01PM in L.A. time.

Can't wait to see it but I really hope Disney didn't screw the pooch on this one. Was pretty upset over the destruction of the EU for this, it had better be worth it.

They didn't. They managed to connect the old with the new pretty well.

I was planning the same. But not because of the movie. I want to test it out 3D (seen) vs 2D on IMAX screen.
