Introducing the sexy space slugs! Despite the sluggish appearance, the species themselves are quite charismatic and handsome although they are a bit... slow. While peaceful, years of paranoia and distrust have cause a hatred of other species as they (wrongly) believe that others are quite jealous of their handsome appearance.

Because of their very specific environmental requirement, all they wish to do is explore the galaxy in peace and find what they considered, the perfect utopia.

Backstory/Traits/Civics/Ethos/Government:

Fanatic Spiritualist: The Mitayaki firmly believe that they are ordained by the Megayak to discover all there is about the Creation of Megayak. The discovery of FTL travel means that the scope of this mission has expanded beyond Yak to the stars.

Xenophile: The Mitayaki are fascinated by other aliens, and are eager to know why the Megayak designed other species to be foolish and degenerate in their ways. They believe that aliens are meant as challenges, and that the process of learning about and then integrating other aliens into the Mitayaki Dominion's way of life will prepare the Mitayaki to face the final days and be worthy of joining the Megayak on a higher plane of existence. Thus, they are rather friendly and accepting of aliens, in the manner of a missionary accepting potential converts.

Oligarchic: The Dominion is a hierarchical society based on merit.

Meritocratic: Individuals are judged by their progress in learning about the Creation of Megayak and move up through the ranks of the society with each achievement.

Exalted Priesthood: The most accomplished Mitiyaki become Demiyaki, the highest class of Mitiyaki, and are revered as leaders and the closest to the Megayak's plan of existence. The Demiyaki hold summits every few decades in order to choose a Primayak, who is the ultimate arbiter in disputes amongst the Mitiyaki.

Venerable: The Mitiyaki live an extremely long life.

Natural Sociologists: This enables them to set up long term experiments about the conduct of both the Mitiyaki and animal species on Yak and be able to live long enough to see the results. The Mitiyaki are thrilled at the concept of studying and enlightening alien species.

Wasteful: The Mitiyaki believe that the Megayak granted them the use of all resources in the galaxy in order to assist them on their quest. They also have a saying: "The Megayak provides." which seems to encourage waste and liberal usage of resources. They have yet to run out of resources yet, so they continue to have faith that the Megayak will provide.

Sedentary: The Mitayaki are loath to move around, as they feel that their specific home was chosen for them by the Megayak.

Solitary: The meditative rituals of the Mitayaki faith mean that they often spend time alone, and the doctrines of the seminaries encourage isolating oneself from others in order to get into touch with the Megayak's personal plan for each individual. Too much collaboration leads to groupthink, which suppresses the Megayak's personal plan.

FTL: Hyperdrive (the hyperlanes were provided by the Megayak, of course, so they must be utilized)

The Mitayaki seek to integrate other species into their society and to preserve life in order to study it and discover its use in the Mitiyakid quest for enlightenment. Therefore, they tend to seek friendship (though not an equal friendship, all alliances are meant simply as a precursor to vassalage and integration if possible, or as tools to protect the Dominion) of friendly species (egalitarians, pacifists etc) and they are willing to use force to neutralize unfriendly species that are destructive (purgers, slavers, etc). The final days is whatever the end game crisis is and so they prepare for that through diplomacy, alliance building and subjugation, and the Mitiyakid would be extremely eager to explore Psionics, believing them to be a gift from Megayak.
