In most all states there are laws against mentally handicapped owning guns. you look at the 15 biggest cities that have the toughest gun control laws, but they have the highest crime rates.  Detroit, Baltimore, Dover, Chicago all respectively have the toughest gun laws around,  but all have highest crime rates.  New laws / tougher laws will not curb gun violence. it has been shown over and over again, 80% to 85% of gun violence was committed by illegal guns.

Should some guns be banned from public sales? yes there are,  but tougher laws on people getting guns legally will not in any way stop or slow the violence.
99.99% of the problem, is this explanation, right here.

It's not, "gun violence".

Its violence.

Violence, was not committed by "illegal guns".

It was created by criminals.

Criminals who almost universally get to walk for their crimes around here, no thank you Rahmfuher, or when they did actually go to prison, ol' barry in the white house wrote them a god damn pardon.

I had to take my local government to FEDERAL court, along with my fellow citizenry, to force The Peoples Republic of Illinois to give me my rights back.  It only happened because a dear, sweet old lady, who never hurt anyone was brutally assaulted at her church and almost beaten to DEATH by a felon who had JUST walked out the revolving door around here, for committing a similar crime.

Our mental health reporting, in a word, sucks.  It doesn't help the people who need it, and it targets people who are not a threat to themselves or anyone else and strips them of their rights.

You want a solution to the problem of urban violence its pretty god damn simple, if you are an animal that can't coexist with society, you belong in a cage, and we don't let you out of the cage over and over again to keep showing up at future murder scenes, and assaults.  Prison, should be prison, not a 4 star beach resort you take a vacation to every couple of months.

Of course, one argument to keeping guns off people is that it would reduce suicide rate in the US. Suicide actually causes the most deaths related to gun violence than homicide.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people and bla bla bla.

Yeah, that's right, but if people kill people why making it so easy by giving them a gun?

With a gun bam! Game over. Without a gun he/she has to take a knife, kill you with bare hands, a stick maybe, with these things you can run, scream for help, etc.

Just to give you an idea of how bad is your situation and why you need a solution

East St. Louis had 19 omicides in a year with a population of 26k

My region had 26 omicides in a year with a population of 4.5 millions

I still think the US should just go full anarchist. You've already got deregulated market. You have armed citizens. Just get rid of all law. Anyone who does something bad gets shot. Solve the problem of overcrowded prisons too.

The left likes to make the argument that automatic rifles should be banned, when in reality handguns kill significantly more people than automatic rifles. So should we ban handguns as well?

I personally believe that to allow someone to own a gun, they should have to undergo pretty extreme training. Basically, I am okay with people owning guns, but I sure as hell don't want to end up as collateral damage because some idiot wasn't trained in how to use their weapon. I also would recommend that the gov't impose a tax on guns and bullets to reduce the amount moving around in the economy. I also would recommend that military grade equipment be banned (things like armor piercing bullets).

I agree with the training part and on top of that, I believe there should be an extensive background check that can disqualify people from owning guns. If a gun owner also has a person that does not meet the background check requirements in their household then keeping the guns safe and secured must be enforced heavily.

I do not agree with military grade equipment being banned however because the bottom line purpose of the 2nd amendment is to provide the citizens of the United States with a means to defend themselves against the possibility of government tyranny.

I want to be able to buy any gun I want wether it be a  9mm or a .50 caliber machine gun. I am planning to own a large gun collection of many numerous firearms and I sure want to add more than hunting weapons to it.

I don't understand that thing, citizens needs guns to fight an eventual tyranny so if the government now has automatic weapons also citizens must have them

Is this the cold war? I guess you also want a tank in the garage, F22 in the garden and a nuke that can be launched from the chimney
