Was the Reign of Terror Justified during the French Revolution?

In 1793, France went through what was known as the Reign of Terror where nearly 20,000 Frenchmen were guillotined  Some say it was to protect the revolution and not fall into a monarchy ever again while others argue that it was wrong to execute innocent Frenchmen. What do you think?

 
IMO, sometimes when "drastic change" is needed, a purge of not only old ideas but those who vehemently support those ideas as well. It also sent a clear and unquestionable message, "THIS is how things will be from now on, get used it or suffer the consequences

 
I think it's one of those things which is lost to history because it's only decided by the people who write the records. There's probably more to the story than we'll ever know.

And there's something odd about history that regardless of whether or not they were murdered, they're all long dead by now.

No, because the conservative order occured afterwards and lots of measures were taken because many nations were afraid of the 1st French Revolution. Whats also ironic is that France had their monarchy restored afterwards. 

 
Sojia votes no, because objectively... anti-monarchy is not best revolution.

Best revolution is SOCIALIST REVOLUTION! But at that time, Marx's social science discoveries had not been made. The "social technology" of revolution was still confused and limited back in those days. :u

 
I mean France slid back into an Imperial system and later a monarchy later after all of this "protecting the Revolution" took place. Looking at if from a that point of view it really wasn't justified :/
