To be fair, the correct nomenclature/semantics for this food item requires an appropriate descriptor. That is to say the term 'toastie' (my preference is actually 'toasty') in isolation is too broad brush to be compared to 'grilled cheese' for it lacks the required "class" or "id". To be clear, the semantically correct term is 'cheese toasty'. Interestingly there are local peculiarities that should not be overlooked; for instance the good 'ol 'baked bean toasty' may or may not also have cheese on it, with the term functioning acceptably according to local protocol. This structural lack certainly does not apply to the 'ham toasty' where in the instance that cheese is also desired requires the specification of cheese to become 'ham and cheese toasty'. Interestingly the only time the reverse is deemed acceptable i.e. 'cheese and ham toasty', is where the person articulating the request is believed foreign (from anywhere where grilled cheese is a thing).
