Yup. Read 2033 before and still have a copy of it

Dunno if it the same with your book but a word of warning, the map translation inside the cover sucks. Makes it pretty hard to follow with the story

 
The original version of Metro 2033 doesn't having a proper stealth mechanic really made for some funny moment

I remembered throwing a knife at someone just for it to be deflect off the ammo magazine. Eventually found out that helmet, armor and various other things covering pretty much the whole body blocks throwing knife so I just resorted to throwing knife at people's ass

The same applies to knife and shotgun bayonet

I managed to complete both games on Ranger hardcore without being detected and getting 0 kills on humans for the good ending :D ,It took awhile...

on the redux versions which did have proper stealth :D

I went through the games just massacring everyone, I had no idea stealth was even possible through the whole game.
