Finding a better game than P&W

Alright, so this came a bit earlier than expected, but I'm a little worried about the state of P&W.

Alex has been going a bit crazy with the updates. Nerfing one thing after another, tweaking game balance to favor the people he wants to win. It seemed to really escalate after I quit. It ruins the fun of the game quite a bit of you work hard to accomplish something and have it taken away.

Morale has dropped quite a bit and I'm worried it'll go below the critical mass needed to keep people in the game.

So might be a good time to explore something new. There's plenty of MMOs out there.

Doesn't have to be a nation building game, although the community is obviously interested in Paradox games.

I did a bit of experimenting with some others. Looks like we're more into persistent games, something where people spend a lot of time building something and have other people try to tear it down.

It'll likely be semi-idle too, meaning that it's not like RuneScape where you only progress by clicking stuff. We prefer to log in regularly, but not have to grind so much.

So Runescape is out. Along with things like Clash of Clans. Too much effort. Something like Travian is not bad, but the pace and workload is too high.

There's always been other games on and off. Anyone else find something they're happy with?

I say we have a hostile takeover of P & W, become stockholders and when we hit majority, we force Alex to code to make sure the direction of the game returns to the original model :)

I like the recent updates, needs some fix but is more interesting than the previous system View attachment 2263

TKR MMO Clan? Sounds great lol

Anyhow, It feels like it's not a great period for MMO nowadays. You either have games that are old with dead playerbase, games which are no longer supported or one which are stuck in the "early access" limbo

Scared of fortification thing when raiding , would be bad being locked in for full conflict :D

Whoooooo TKR is moving from PnW! Maybe now we can fight T$?????

Anyways, there are a few that I know.

There's Wildstar, which is super grindy but has an amazing combat system.

Tera, with a great combat system as well, is another option.

Neverwinter, based off of dnd, could be nice.

Skyforge.

These are all similar to runescape though, so this might be problematic.

There's obviously still NationStates, which is the only game in this niche that is going strong but interaction is much less than P&W.

The game mechanics updates are good IMO. It's just the manner of quickpatching things by making everything unplayable. Someone makes multis? Solution: lock new players out of good trades for 45 days. Someone 'abusing' the API by constantly refreshing it every 3 seconds? Slow it down. Still more bots? Add captchas to everything.

Tried that. Alex was not open to it. The attempt might have been the reason he's gone off and done crazy things like make credits worth $10M and put a big "P&W is less dead than CN" tramp stamp on everyone's nations.

tbf, the early access stuff is the best. P&W is probably still in there. Good stuff like Dwarf Fortress and Cataclysm DDA are permanent early access.

I'm going to look at every one of these

well travian is not at all good unless you are ready to use your 24x7 time,
also there is not much alliance drama present as well :P

I think the fact that it's still impossible to loot anybody who doesn't want to be looted is a sad sign of the state of things. We're a very long way from unplayability yet though. Mensa would probably be one of the first and best communities who would jump ship - their exit plan is Travian, I think.

yep mensa is playing travian and I am in mensa in travian but still travian requires a lot more activity and almost 0 alliance drama

I'm more worried about the slippery slope to pay to win. Sheepy is hardly the greedy type, so it could be a symptom that the game doesn't have enough funds to keep going.

I think the game has at least a year of fun left. But it's a good time to start actively scouting for new shores like Mensa is doing.

you forgot the whole new "fortification "feature" that makes all battles unwinnable

I'm going to look at every one of these
problem with all those is they arent a turn based game. that's the only reason i joined P & W to begin with. I am getting on in age and arthritis makes it hard for me to play a real time game competitively.

Ya, best case scenario is we find a another nation building game.

If we ever needed PT to be fixed, it would be right about now.
