EU4 Multiplayer

HRE would be a fun theme for us. Both competitive and cooperative elements.

Might be able to join. Will probably buy the game tomorrow while the sale is on. Judging from the Slack poll, the biggest issue for me is probably waking up early enough on time to play lol
Would pushing it back to 2 am PnW time make it easier on you? It's looking like Tuesday is the winner right now with 5 votes.

Yep, this was going to be the next discussion - how do we want to handle the start? Stick to Minor/Middle Powers? Everyone is fair game? Only in Europe etc etc

Midnight PnW time should be fine, i'll just make sure i wake up early.  Only tuesday i know im busy at right now is the 28

Europe is a really safe place since we'll likely pull in beginners. Especially with the new tech introduced in Rights of Man and some nations getting revamped national ideas.

One core problem with HRE internal politics is AI Austria or not. AI Austria will absolutely screw over any minor HRE member near him. Also the insane amount of AE you generate within the HRE makes it a problem for people who aren't used to limits.

I would honestly say newer players should play stronger countries since it's more forgiving of failure. Even taking one unlawful province in the HRE land you with -120 relations with other HRE states and can get you an easy rolling. It's not newb friendly by any means. If we have major powers as players, I would just put a basic rule of Great Powers not to ally each other or at most one other great power ally.

A few good middle powers that aren't in too bad a position outside the HRE in European/North Africa/Mideast include: Portugal, Oman, Ethiopia, Hungary, Tunisia, Hejaz, Morocco, and Scotland. Inside the HRE some good choices for middle/small powers Brandenburg (the classic), Bohemia, Hanseatic League, Palatinate, Bavaria, Switzerland, and Hesse.

I'd recommend Castile and Ottomans for those completely new.

I don't have Mare Nostrum but the changes makes the Barbary States of North Africa pretty appealing to me.

I would say no to Ottomans, Spain, England, France.

Portugal is okay. Some noob should pick Austria. I might go for Austria if nobody less experienced does - even in EU3, I rarely play Europe.

I might just have something on this Tuesday, idk if late start is possible.

Maybe we can start claiming countries? I'd go for Austria or Venice. Hungary as third choice. I have no idea if these are shit countries lol.

Austria is pretty good for a beginner player but they might get a bit overwhelm by all the HRE mechanics. Also, Hungary is meh due to the fact Austria is almost guarantee to form a personal union over Hungary.

If we're picking nations now then I guess i'll go with Muscovy or Poland. Want to start dabbling in some Eastern European nations.

Starting on Tuesday.

Trying to decide what nation to go with, will probably see what everyone else is doing first.

Candidates for me right now are:

Tuscany

Japan

Qara Qoyunlu

Byzantium (I would probably lose very quickly lol)

    Spoiler

If you'd like to join next week, just choose a country :D

Sorry I couldn't tag along for this session. I was a bit iffy on what time the game started again. Was it 2 AM P&W time on Tuesday?

I'm willing to tag Brandenburg. There's no proper German player yet sadly.

I'll just play England lol. Brandenburg needs a perfect start to be relevant.
England was strange in the session. Hundred year war starts, England immediately fell into war of the rose and ended it without it doing any real damage. Also, Castille somehow got into a war with england and drag out fanag's war
