Rinworld

Rin

Oathkeeper
Someone reminded me that I still owe everyone a Rimworld run. I guess most of the people then are not here anymore, but a promise is a promise.

I haven't played Rimworld in years, so I'm probably really bad. So everyone is probably going to die fast and die horribly. Classic run, settings as below:

No mods. But if you have any good suggestions that don't mess up the balance too much, I'm open to it.

Oh, and I'll rename the factions to P&W alliances  ^_^

The spaceship Alethkar is on a routine mission doing routine stuff. On the 12th of Decembary, for reasons unknown, the spaceship crashes on an unknown planet, just east of Old Reindeer Peaks.

(yes I spent way too much time modifying the factions)

Only three survivors crawled out of the wreckage:

1. Esthaevys, who got some of my 99999 ppu food IRL and wouldn't return it, so I'm drafting him as the resident psychopath.

2. Micchan, humble nudist and aspiring doctor

3. Ragnar, old farmhand but good with a gun

ragnar.png

Day 1:

  • The team salvaged whatever junk was lying around
  • Ragnar and Micchan built up a quick storehouse for the junk, and some beds
  • Esthaevys ran around shooting wolves and lynxes, and most of the smaller predators
Before we realize it, it was night. Good night, sweet colonists.

Day 4.

Things are going well, but still quiet.

We have set up plans for the new colony.

Esthaevys has been drafting defense ideas and shooting wolves.

The others have been hauling food and resources, and building structures.

Wolves are making for some decent subsistence food, but we'll need to get food storage and air conditioning up soon.

Micchan has requested a double bed for some reason.

The settlement has been given a name, Urithuru.

Several days later...

Several raiders hit from the various tribes, but many of them were one shot killed by Esthaevys. A couple of them were captured, notably a wild man named Black (I swear I didn't edit the name).

Micchan's cooking gives everyone some food poisoning, but everyone recovers. Food supplies flourish as rice and potato farms are set up. A simple wood fired generator provides refrigeration and food storage.

A few pigs, a ram, and a yak joined the group. A couple of boomerlopes are trained - giving access to chemfuel in the future.

Oh! Ragnar proposed to Micchan and the two of them are getting married.

But the wedding will have to wait. A contact from the Syndicate informs us of a nearby resource stash, with only a pair of rats guarding it. A bit of high quality glitterworld medicine, as well as a neurotrainer. The location is a nearby ancient graveyard. Ragnar and Esthaevys set off to graverob retrieve the artifacts.

The campaign went terribly. It turns out that rats are pretty hard to shoot. Ragnar managed to punch them all to death, but not without taking a few bites. Esthaevys refused to heal him, despite having the literal best medical resources in the planet on hand.

Ragnar, with no medical skills, did a terrible job of patching himself up. There's an old saying that urine cures wounds, but for some reason he got infected within hours and passed out on the trip back.

caravan.png

In less than 4 hours, he was dead.

Esthaevys, resident psychopath, decided that the body was not worth hauling back, and dumped it somewhere.

Micchan was very unhappy with the sudden turn of events, but is coping well.

With the loss of Ragnar, we're forced to slash maintenance, especially food.

The team brought the prisoners off to the nearby Syndicate town to be sold. Guinea pig fur is in high demand for some reason and we make a small fortune from selling off leather.

furs.png

Micchan got a good deal out of it - an animal handling neurotrainer, which brought her animal handling skill from 7 to 12 (expert), and several days supply of megabeaver meat, much tastier than the rat meat they had been living off.

Micchan felt a little bad from selling off Blackie, but it was what had to be done.

On the way back, the team encountered a Terminus Est raiding party about to loot the colony. Esthaevys dispatched most of them quickly, while Micchan did a surprising amount of damage flanking and shotgunning raiders, despite having a shooting skill of 2.

A few days later, we receive a distress call from a wounded Smith, trapped in the mountains two days away. The team gathers supplies for the expedition.

After two grueling days of travel, the team reaches Smith in the mountains. Esthaevys senses an ambush and blasts the raider before he could get a shot in.

We dragged Smith back home. By the time everyone reached the base, everyone was tired, cranky, and throwing tantrums. The fridges failed because of a lack of fuel, and all the food went bad. It took 3 days to nurse Smith back to health, as well as get a stable food supply again.

Raids are starting to pick up. They're now sending bands of three, who aren't entirely incompetent.

carthago-raid.png

Esthaevys does a good job of suppressing the raiders, while Micchan outflanks and scores the final kills. Smith doesn't really do any fighting because it's not in his nature.

We take a few raiders as prisoner and sell them off for enough money to buy a charge rifle.

A week later, a routine retrieval quest was ambushed by Szeth. Szeth was overpowered by the team, and dragged back to the colony, where he spent several days imprisoned before finally agreeing to join TKR.

To celebrate the new members, Micchan throws a party for everyone. Rice cakes and squirrel kebabs were enjoyed by everyone.

Micchan tames some horses, doubling our caravan speeds now that we don't need yaks.

Some manhunting horses came into town. Mad cows as well. Abundant horse and cow meat for everyone!

The gun wounds from the earlier battles have given Szeth chronic pain. Consulting with resident doctor Micchan, he asked for a treatment. Micchan says there's no way to cure the injuries, but she could perform brain surgery to give him constant joy. Szeth hesitates, but eternal happiness is hard to turn down.

Smith purchases a joywire from the nearby Syndicate settlement, and Micchan puts Szeth under anesthesia.

joywire.png

The surgery was a success!

joywire-success.png

It takes a while for the anesthesia to wear off, but after that, Szeth is fully active again. He gets the farms up quickly, filling our fields with potatoes and rice, as well as hay for the animals. With a bit extra time, he also fills up our fields with psychoid cash crops.

Micchan rebounds, and proposes to marry Smith. Smith agrees!

Our contact in the Syndicate tells us of a shield belt stashed a day away, guarded by angry chinchillas. Szeth, Micchan, and Esthaevys headed down there, but took some moderate injuries from the chinchillas. Not wanting to get infected like Ragnar did, the team rests a day there to recover from injuries.

Meanwhile, back home, an Arrgh raiding party comes by for a visit...

smithraided.png

The Arrgh raiders set fire to several parts of the colony.

fire.png

Nearly all the animals were slaughtered.

deadanimals.png

One pirate takes a lot of damage from the animals, and eventually dies though. The pirates, unable to find anything worth looting, decide it's not worth their time and leave, but not before burning down the dining room and kitchen as well.

Smith and only one ram survived the onslaught.

The expedition returns to a complete mess. Smith retiles the wooden floors on the kitchen, and Szeth replants the fields. A week later, the colony is flourishing again. The hospital is expanded to fit four people. Cash crops line the colony again. There is lots of food (from the dead livestock), to the point we had to expand the refrigerator.

flourishes.png

Friends in the Syndicate inform us of a cache of plasteel and gold. Wary of what happened the last time, they leave Szeth behind, as he could handle a shotgun, while the rest head out to retrieve the gold.

Of course, whenever someone is left home alone, another raid hits...

Szeth has just enough time to set up one trap before the raiders arrive. A firefight breaks out. Szeth fights valiantly with his shotgun, but is no match for three raiders.

One raider trips on the trap, dying instantly. The others are reluctant to advance, so they kidnap Szeth instead, probably for slavery or ransom.

szeth-kidnapped.png

Upon returning home, we agree to get better weapons and armor. Szeth would have been safe had he better armor or an assault rifle.

But in the meantime, Micchan and Smith got married in the sparse dining room.

Micchan trains a megasloth, and Smith sells it off. He buys a rare, expensive hyperweave headdress and declares himself tribal leader.

Okay, long break with work and holidays and stuff lol. I might just make these less frequent but have longer/more interesting updates.

Another raid came in and hit hard. This one kills a horse and severely injures Micchan.

micchan-thumb.png

Well, thumbs are overrated anyway. Micchan can still do brain surgery with only one.

At the end of the raid, we got Durham and Benfro.

durham.png

benfro.png

Benfro has a lot of social potential. Not yet at Smith's level, but can potentially exceed it. He's also the only one now who can mine anything. Durham is pretty average overall, but a fast learner. He's also the best crafter we have. Both are high potential soldiers.

Durham gets to tailoring work on some leather jackets, dusters, and cowboy hats to make everyone look cooler (and feel cooler in summer).

Our first successful crop of psychoid is ready. We sent Smith and Esthaevys off with a whole pack of raw psychoid and ambrosia. They trade it for

  • 2 steel flak helmets
  • 1 recon helmet
  • 1 flak vest
  • Enough medicine to last the colony a year.
The colonists finally upgrade from tshirts to proper bullet resistant armor.

Some folks from The Syndicate comment on the sexy new dusters and asks Smith to bring more next time. They offer some pretty generous rewards in return for high fashion.

The place is starting to look more like home now.
