These articles give the backstory. The victims letter to her assaulter is lengthy, but I have read the entire thing and I can tell you that it is worth taking the time to read and reflect on it.

What do you think of rape culture worldwide?

I want to warn everyone that any comments that are in bad taste about the victim, the rapist or anyone in this community will be removed. I want to encourage a introspective discussion about society. If I remove a comment of yours you believe is not justified, please pm me and we can discuss it. Tomorrow, when the new poll of the day is posted, I will move the discussion to the paelaenium. Thank you for your thoughtful, mature discussion.

if you would like to view the jumping off point for this discussion, view the poll of the day with the same title

I think this article hits the nail on the head:

https://medium.com/@kim.saumell/i-was-never-raped-but-when-i-was-11-the-son-of-a-family-friend-copped-a-feel-whenever-we-were-b2c95ea1fdeb#.mne4r9mb0

Just about everything a girl does is judged in some way, whether it's how she dresses, how she drinks, where she goes.

Tbh a large part of the reason I started playing this game with an androgynous nick was because a lot of people are hella creepy.

As an example, I considered making Nirvana's "Rape Me" as a nation anthem for a losing war.

As "Alex", that would just be edgy shitposting from some Gen Y kid. As "Sheepy", that would be hilarious.

As "Rin", that would attract some seriously creepy dudes who would reverse image search my photos, doxx my info, harass me on Facebook, and if anything happens, people will actually debate whether "Rin was asking for it."

Even now I'm pretty paranoid about this stuff and open all alliance forums and images in incognito windows, so people can't get my browsing history in cookies.

This kind of thing really... limits a lot of fun.

Ironically, I feel the X-rated communities are much safer spaces because people don't try to interpret everything as a hint.

Like Deus makes completely inappropriate sexual remarks. Which is fine because he doesn't do so to signal anything. It's in character. We even have this blue penis emoji which is also fine because it only implies rape in a strictly military sense.

Whereas high on the creep factor are personal messages like "hello dear , I love u" And "what u wearing now" is an imminent rape signal. I literally had a friend sms me her location and told me to call the police if she doesn't return tonight, because her boyfriend was asking her what she was wearing.

These kinds of things are really hard to put down on paper and explain. Especially when half the world doesn't actually experience it.

I attribute it less to a rape society and more of a sexually charged one. Everything uses sex to sell items, society is bombarded with sexual connotations and advertisements. Hell, one of the measuring units of manliness is how much sex he gets. I think having sex be something that isn't hush hush and repressed is a sign of a healthier society, having it define your society is not.

This case disgusts me. The judge should be impeached. It just makes it clear that no matter how much progress society has made it clearly isn't enough. This case and the letter Rin posted show that society at large still views women as disposable sex toys. Six bloody months. He should have got life. Screw his rich ass, white male privilege. That's the only reason the sentence was so light. If he'd been a poor minority guy he'd have got life. I'm going to shut up now and go back to chewing my tail before I say something really angry and incendiary.
