I find it inferior to discord for a lot of stuff, but it's better for certain organizations I am sure but I've never used it on where it was worth while.

 
The only thing I have to compare to is IRC and I think slack is 10x better. IRC is complex to set up and there are too many codes, tags, and other thing you need to know to really get the full experience of the chat. Slack is simpler and took me 5 minutes to set up (most of that was looking for IC's email again)
