I'm from Texas so of course every other weekend or so I have to smoke a pork shoulder or brisket flat or at least some St. Louis ribs mmmmm that shit is yummy with some hickory smoke

BBQ refers to a very specific low and slow cooking process for meat.

What you are referring to is called grilling.

PS if you haven't grilled pineapple or watermelon, you haven't lived.
Terminology differs wherever you happen to be I guess

St. Louis ribs are amazing! I also really like Bratwurst during the summer if they are done right, it's much better than hot dogs.

 
Memphis or die. Pork only, dry rub, the lower and slower the better.
honestly, I dont like smoked meat. It's alright, but there are much better styles of food.

edit- I looked up Memphis style and that sounds a lot like smoking the meat to me. Is there an actual difference?

Wood, or more specifically, coal is better, gives it a unique flavor and aroma.
Also, I recommend skewered meat with vegetables like onions and peppers, as well as lots of spices and lemon. If that doesn't say tasty I don't know what does.

 
I prefer charcoal but use gas for convenience when I need things done more quickly.  As for food, we need an "all of the above" option because I will grill just about anything.  Except fruit - I've not tried that.
