Not popular sports

@Optima said he doesn't know AFL, this made me think that there are so many sports that few people know

So I present you Tamburello a muro (wall tambourine) a sport played in my region in the old towns located on a hill which often have walls like this one

As you can see there's a playground like tennis but without the net, you can play 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, 3 vs 3, etc.

Like tennis you have to hit the ball with the tambourine and you can use the wall for a bounce

Played in north Italy and France, but France never won  :parrot:

Example of a set

Futsal. It's like a downsized version of football but much more faster paced. Somewhat popular in Thailand due to the fact that you don't need as much space as normal football

I present you Calcio Storico (historic football)

slide_10.jpg

It is a game that was practiced by Roman soldiers in peacetime (it was called Harpastum)

Very popular in the Middle Ages and since the 1930 it is played once a year with a 4-team tournament (red, green, blue, and white) in June in the city of Firenze (not always)

Each team consists of 27 volunteer players representing their neighborhood, many nobles participated in these games in the Middle Ages, dukes, counts, princes, and even some popes

The rules are similar to those of rugby, there is a small net where the ball must be deposited or thrown to make point, but if you throw the ball and do not hit the net or the ball is deflected by the defenders the opposing team gets half point, so it is often deposited and not launched from afar

Almost everything is allowed, so there are MMA fights, provided they are 1vs1

Highlights of the 2016 final

This is a """""sport""""" but since this year edition just finished I will talk about it because there's actual competition

The Battaglia delle arance (battle of oranges) of Ivrea

Yes, another thing of my region, I am an undercover tour operator? Maybe

It takes place during the carnival and has origins in the Middle Ages, there are teams representing the various districts of the city, some parade in the streets on horse-drawn carts while others await the carts in the areas assigned to them

And then? Then they hit the enemies with oranges!

Don't worry, since Italy haa a huge production of oranges there are many oranges not considered suitable for production that would therefore be destroyed anyway, yep, they throw mostly rotten oranges

Where's the competition? Well, every year there's a team who wins on the carts and one team who wins on the ground, and are the participants who vote for the winners, who has hurt you most? They are the winners!

And if you just want to watch and you don't want to get hurt there's a simple way to avoid the oranges, they don't target people with a red hat

Been there, the team I joined kind of won this year :P  It was epic. Especially Fat Thursday, now thats a great fucking party hosted by all the teams once the General is announced. Followed by the Mugnaia being announced! Man I have the video of that somewhere, I'll post it at some point. I did a blog post on the NPO forums about I think!. Definitely turning up for the battle next year again! For the Diavoli of course :D
