Breaking News

After several days, the ASEAN summit had concluded and in a surprising decision, the representatives of the ASEAN nations announced that ASEAN will become a military bloc effective immediately in response to the growing military tension abroad as well as recognizing the need to defend itself from foreign powers.

The fine details of the bloc are still being finalized. However, it is confirmed that the bloc itself will be a defensive bloc with every nations within ASEAN (Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Philippines) having a mutual defense pact with each other and are obligated to lend military assistance to each other if an outsider nation commits any act of aggression against any of the ASEAN members

While critics are concerned that making ASEAN into a military bloc will compromise the integrity of ASEAN as a regional economic organization and the possiblity of the ASEAN becoming a single, mega entity, ASEAN spokesperson stated that the military bloc is merely an addition to ASEAN and that the economic and social aspects of ASEAN will remain the same.
