Enjoying the book? Tell us what you love! Came across an exciting/shocking part? Don't hold it in! Have questions? Ask away! The world is your oyster.

I'll update this post when we have the date for the VC discussion. In the meantime, if you have anything you want to talk about regarding the novel, go for it!

RULES

There is only one: Be respectful of people still reading the book. That means use spoiler tags and note the chapter you want to discuss on the outside of the tag, so people know where you're at and what's safe to open up. Example:

Chapter 15

Spoiler
Hi. I am a spoiler. Thanks for hiding me here.

Have fun!

I’ll start by commenting that this book series is very very British.

for those of you using audiobooks, find a British narrator. American narrators just don’t translate well. You miss all the humor.

For those of you reading it yourself, use a British accent while doing so.
(double points if you are British already)

100% agree and will also say this is true for the Harry Potter audiobooks. No offense to Jim Dale, it just doesn't hit the same if it's about British people and the narrator isn't British. Stephen Fry narrates both HP and Hitchhiker's Guide and it's just much better for it, even if he can't pronounce "pocketed".

Want to thank @Opa-Athenalite and @Canbec for coming to the book club discussion last night. It was a really good time and I enjoyed chatting with the both of you. Hope to see more of you there next time.

One of the things we talked about during the call was learning from the book's intro that Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was originally written as a radio show and then adapted into books (and later movies). I went online this morning and found the original radio show segments so if anyone is interested, you can listen to them here: http://www.radionouspace.net/programs/hitchhikers-guide/.

BRUUUHH   Jim Dale IS British 😂

And he had 4 hits on the UK music thing  (which I never would have guessed)

I’ve heard a sample of Mr. Fry reading HP, but he didn’t participative in any of the HGTTG things I found.

I started with an hour of Douglas Adams performing his favorite parts solo. Then found the HGTTG Tertiary Phase & its 2 sequels, which were a modern full cast production much like the original radio. Then the actual individual books read by Martin Freeman. Finally the ultimate Guide to HGTTG read by a random American.

nowhere was Stephen Fry 😂😂😂 gods this just adds to the nonsense that is HGTTG

Is he actually? Lmao. I swear to God, he did not sound it when I listened to the audiobooks and I swore he used American substitutions for British words and I hated them because of it. But now I'm listening to an excerpt and am thinking maybe I'm just batshit crazy. Maybe I confused him with someone else? Idfk.

My mom has the Stephen Fry audiobook versions that she ripped from a CD but listening to those is annoying because I can't get them to move continuously from one to another on my phone.

Audible has the Jim Dale version of HP and the Stephen Fry version of Hitchhiker's Guide.

Well there are British and American versions of the books. Obviously, Jim Dale was given the American book to narrate to the American audiences. That doesn’t make him less British, though, just like reading the British version of the books won’t make me more British lol

honestly, with all this talk I am probably going to go digging for Stephen Fry’s version soon.  It’ll be refreshing to hear what was switched out,  Jim Dale was getting…. Lol

I wonder why a playlist doesn’t run your audio files continuously. I bet it stops right in the middle of the action too xD  ah, the days of switching to the next CD..

Okay, gotcha. Well, I will amend my prior statement to "...and the narrator isn't reading it in a British accent."

It stops at the end of every chapter iirc.
