Democratic Debate

Infinite Citadel

Who do you guys think won?

I thought Sanders did ok, O Malley did way better than I expected, and Clinton managed to not fuck up (which is exactly what she needs to do to win - she has all of the money behind her). Chaffe was hilariously awful and Webb wasn't progressive enough (he'd be a reasonable Republican candidate imo).

Although, I only managed to watch the last 30-20 mins of the debate, but from what I saw i don't think anyone really did standout. If anything, It's either between Clinton or Sanders.

I agree that Sanders could of done better but maybe he just needs more practice(reason why i think there should be more debates). Clinton should of done a lot better than just "managed not to fuck up" given she has more experience runing for president than anyone on that stage. O'Malley maybe just gained some reputation but not enought to challange Clinton and Sanders. Chafee just..... why?  Webb... "Webb wasn't progressive enough (he'd be a reasonable Republican candidate imo)" maybe he just wanted to be taken seriously?

Jim Webb made me laugh when he basically said he killed a guy in Vietnam when was talking about groups that oppose him. I think Chafee had some good points, but he certainly isn't charismatic. He perhaps attempted the most of them all to attack Clinton based on her past regarding the Iraq War and the Glass-Steagal discussion made me laugh because it was Bill Clinton who helped kill it. I was surprised that wasn't mentioned.

"Jim Webb made me laugh when he basically said he killed a guy in Vietnam when was talking about groups that oppose him." I think that was the most awkward momment in the whole dabete.

I'm sure someone informed Chaffee that he had just been part of a debate on the car ride back home. Maybe he was just there for comedic relief?

I think Sanders won the debate. He's consistent and appeals to the masses. Hilary is a shape-shifting scoundrel that conforms to whatever image public opinion might currently demand; she has no convictions of her own, and just says whatever will tickle the ears of her audience. Webb made some interesting points, but isn't radical or progressive enough to be 2016's democrat. O'Malley is making headway, but I think he's just sticking around to be the establishment alternative if Hilary's campaign implodes.

While I think most of the policy proposals they submitted are deplorable (I'm pretty libertarian), one of the greatest strengths of the democratic party is their unity. Last night you didn't see them attacking each other, but instead being charitable and hospitable with their fellow Democrats for the sake of party unity. Who even knows what the Republic party stands for? Their debates have just been shouting matches and the issues are barely even touched.

Of course, it helps the Democrats that they don't have to share the stage with Trump :)

I think Sanders didn't win the debate; I think O'Malley did.  He was on point, did far above expectations, put out his progressive resume, and nailed it at the end.

But Sanders got the biggest boost from it, which is nationwide followers.  Clinton will _never_ come out of a debate looking ahead.  She is far too centrist, with too much baggage.  Her victories are simply not fucking up, which _never_ wins debates.  Remember the first Obama-Romney debate?  Obama sat there and just, didn't fuck up, and because of that it was labeled a huge failure and Romney got votes even though Romney embarrassed himself.  Clinton may own CNN and CNN will be shilling for her hard, but nobody trusts CNN anymore.

O'Malley won the actual debate segment, Sanders won the campaigning segment, and Clinton kept her status quo.  The other two are irrelevant.

By the way, did anyone else notice Webb has a half-asian half-white vietnamese massage parlor girl as a daughter? hello, nurse

Well said.

iirc Webb married someone from Vietnam

I thought it was interesting the focus groups aid Sanders won, but on the CNN website said Hillary was the clear winner. Although, I suppose it helps Time Warner is a Clinton donor and owns CNN!

Sanders definitely won the debate. While Clinton spent the majority of the debate acting, Bernie Sanders spent the ENTIRE debate discussing the real issues in America. O'Malley was actually worse in the debate than he normally is. He is actually quite an intelligent and charismatic person in better circumstances. Regardless, I don't think that O'Malley stood out enough to be considered a winner of the debate by any means. He definitely did prove that he is capable, but not that he is better. I think that he has a far better chance as president though, since he is more moderate than the current democratic party. I completely support Sanders though. It is about time that the Democratic Party took politics seriously, and actually pushed for what they believed. I can't believe that our liberal party took this long before they started really trying to catch up with the rest of the entire modern world. Please let the US not prove to the rest of the world to be completely incompetent of anything.
