I'm quite hard of hearing in one ear so yeah. Also helps my boyfriend understand some accents sometimes since his first language isn't English.

Sometimes if the person is speaking too fast or i am not understanding their accent

I rarely do.  I find myself reading the captions and not watching the action on the screen when they are on so I only use them if I cannot understand the dialogue without them.

I used to hate subtitles/captions for this very reason, but over time I've trained my brain to ignore them and only read them when I need to understand something.

Big fan of captions and I always have them on. It's especially nice for when your mom just has to talk to you in the middle of you watching something, or for shows that like to change sound levels too frequently, or whatever else. Plus, you sometimes get to hear fun little background things you wouldn't get to otherwise.

Oh it is must in my household. Im deaf so is my partner. It helps tremendously for us understanding movies or shows we watch. Although it sucks going movie theaters because they don’t have open captions like they used to.

I've heard they sometimes having showings with them during mornings/early afternoons. Don't get me started on how stupid and lame that is, but might be worth looking into to see if one near you has it? I've also heard some have these CC devices they can give you that will show you the captioning? Attaches to the cup holder or something? Dunno if that's true/exists near you, but figured I'd pass that along.

I do know that unfortunately those device rarely works. Every time I go they don’t work at all. So I give up on askin for those devices since they don’t work. But we have to look into their schedule for open captions sometimes they will show that. But not often.

That they do, unfortunately I learn from one manager who know asl always let boss know that it isn’t enough devices isn’t working. Although my opinion they should have check those devices every other hours making sure they work. But I know people don’t wanna go extra mile for deaf people. Although I do wish they have.
