The dissolution of the European Union left many nations in western Europe on the brink of collapse. Amidst the chaos, several nations decided to form their own military blocs, with the newfound European Federation being a prominence among others, alongside the Holy Roman Empire. Tensions between the two have worried many European leaders, urging them to pick a bloc and defy the other. Meanwhile, Switzerland, having been threatened by Eastern powers, decided to abandon its centuries-old policy of armed neutrality, and started signing mutual defense pacts with other western European nations in hopes of protecting itself from foreign aggressions. In times of desperate situations, several leaders of western European nations including Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Austria, Portugal, and Switzerland gathered together with EuroFed leaders in Paris to discuss terms of a possible military alliance with the European Federation.
